Your Guide to Fillers and Injectables at Lakefront Wellness

Millions of people opt for BOTOX® each year. One close contender for the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment, however, is dermal fillers. These injectable treatments take a different approach toward aging and can be a powerful way to refresh your look. Here’s what to know about dermal fillers and how to get started on your treatment at Lakefront Wellness.

What are Dermal Fillers?

The process of aging is actually caused by a loss of collagen and elastin in the skin. Both of these proteins help keep your skin supple and firm and are plentiful when you’re young. But, as early as your 30s, collagen begins to break down and the body becomes less effective at replacing it. The result is drier, looser skin that doesn’t have the support it once did. When fillers are placed under the skin, they can replace the volume once supplied by collagen, restoring a more youthful look.

There are a number of filler types that alleviate volume loss. In the past, collagen was widely used as the filler of choice, but the alternative used most often today is hyaluronic acid. These fillers have the additional benefit of restoring hydration to the skin by binding to the moisture already present in your body.

What Can I Expect from Filler Treatment?

Filler treatments can typically be performed in 20-30 minutes. Most patients don’t require any numbing but a topical anesthetic can be applied if you need it. You’ll be able to see instant results from your filler treatment so you can ensure you get the results you want before you leave.

After the procedure, you can go about your normal routine and return to work. You may experience some swelling and tenderness, which can be alleviated with a cold compress. Most symptoms go away within a few hours to days.

It’s important that you avoid rubbing, massaging, or poking area for at least two days so that the filler can take effect. Also, avoid hot temperatures like hot showers or saunas. You can avoid bruising by forgoing any blood-thinning medications like ibuprofen before and after your treatment. It can take about two weeks for swelling to subside and for the product to settle, at which point you can return to adjust your results as needed.

What Types of Fillers Are Available?

At Lakefront Wellness, we offer Revanesse® fillers including Lips™+ and Versa™+. Both options are hyaluronic acid fillers that can treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles. We often pair Revanesse fillers with other anti-aging injectables like BOTOX and Xeomin®. During a consultation, our experienced injectors can discuss your best options for your cosmetic goals.
