How Does Juvéderm Dermal Filler Work?
All Juvéderm fillers have a hyaluronic acid formula. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring molecule that hydrates and plumps the skin by attracting water molecules. As the skin ages, hyaluronic acid levels will slowly decrease, leading to sagging and wrinkling. Juvederm fillers combat this effect by replenishing hyaluronic acid for a natural-looking refreshed appearance.
Am I a Candidate for Juvéderm?
The best candidates for Juvéderm are healthy adults over the age of 21 with no allergies to lidocaine or other ingredients in the Juvéderm formula. At your initial consultation, your medical history will be discussed to make sure Juvéderm is safe for you and that you are unlikely to have an allergic reaction. Additionally, patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding should wait to receive treatment.
What to Expect from Your Hyaluronic Acid Treatment
Juvéderm treatment only takes 20-30 minutes, and most patients do not find the injections to be painful. After receiving your filler injections, you can immediately return to almost all normal activities, but you’ll want to avoid strenuous exercise for 1-2 days. Mild swelling, temporary redness, and bruising at the injection site are common for a few days but can be alleviated with cold compresses and anti-inflammatory medication.
Results start to appear a few days after treatment and will be fully developed within two weeks. These results will last about one year and can be touched up with additional Juvéderm treatments.
