Xeomin

Xeomin is a botulinum toxin treatment similar to Botox but designed specifically to treat frown lines between the eyebrows. However, it is often used to treat a variety of facial wrinkles and lines to reverse the effects of aging and is even used to combat certain movement disorders.

What is Xeomin?

Xeomin is one other botulinum toxin injection made from botulinum toxin A but without the added proteins found in Botox. Because of this, it has earned the nicknames “naked Botox” and “vegan Botox.” Without those accessory proteins, there is less risk your body will develop antibody resistance, meaning Xeomin will continue to be effective even after several injections. This injectable was designed to treat moderate to severe frown lines, which are the vertical lines between your eyebrows, but it can also treat crow’s feet, horizontal forehead lines, and “bunny lines” on the nose.

How Does Xeomin Work?

Botulinum toxin type A, the active ingredient in Xeomin, blocks nerve signals to specific muscles in the face, preventing muscle contractions. Since the underlying facial muscles cannot contract, the skin will not wrinkle when facial expressions are made. Botulinum toxin injections are very safe when performed by an experienced injector and are a popular minimally invasive cosmetic treatment.

Am I a Candidate for Xeomin Injections?

If you want to smooth facial wrinkles and fine lines, you are likely a great candidate for Xeomin. Xeomin is also a great alternative to cosmetic surgery for those who are not surgical candidates or do not want to undergo surgery. You are also a good candidate for Xeomin if you have developed a resistance to Botox or other botulinum toxin products after years of treatment. This is thanks to the lack of added proteins.

You might not be a candidate for Xeomin treatment if you have had allergic reactions to botulinum toxin or other ingredients found in Xeomin. You should also wait to receive treatment if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or currently have an active skin infection.

What to Expect

During your consultation for Xeomin in Lakeland, TN, your provider will discuss what you are hoping to achieve and will then decide where to place the injections and how many are needed. The only discomfort you may experience is a slight pinch from the needle during treatment. A topical numbing cream can be applied to the treatment area if desired, but many patients do not need it.

Mild bruising, redness, and swelling around the injection site are common after your botulinum toxin injections. These side effects will resolve within a few days. This is a quick treatment that only takes a few minutes and can even be performed during your lunch hour. The effects of Xeomin work quicker than Botox and you will begin to see results in about five days. These results will usually last about 3-4 months and additional cosmetic procedures can be scheduled to maintain your youthful appearance.
